Some tags aren’t as important as they used to be.  For example there was a way to manipulate your search rankings by artifically stuffing keywords in the Description Meta tag.  Some marketers placed the same keyword hundreds of times in the description tag so that search engines would rank the page highly.  After a while search engines discounted or even penalized sites that abused that particular tag.
